Finding Time to Blog

Blogging is hard.

I’m not going to lie, finding time to write about stuff while I’m not being paid to do it is almost impossible. With a full time job and 2 kids, one of which is a miniature Godzilla, the only time I can usually find to write is when my head should be firmly pressed against my pillow. We’re talking about some high quality time here people.

Then again, weekends are sometimes more open. The problem there is I usually try to reserve that time for my family. While I do enjoy talking about my wife and the two dudes, in doing so, I can’t afford to neglect them. Dad before work.

Day broken down

For some reason my pie chart turned into the Mercedes-Benz logo.

So sleep will have to suffer.

Actually, it’s not really a huge deal. Heck, back in high school I’d watch Late Night with Conan O’Brien, play a bit of Final Fantasy and then go to bed at around 1:30 or 2 before getting up to head to jazz band rehearsal. I was definitely one of the geekier cooler high school kids back in the day. Just ask my wife.

After all of the chauffeuring, bathing for 2 or sometimes 3 people, cleaning and picking up of baby intestine wreaking artifacts around the house, among a million other things, sitting down and doing nothing sounds amazing. I guess my head isn’t fully in the entrepreneurial blogger/creative moonlighter spirit as much as I wish it was. I actually envy those people. It’s not like I lost all of my drive. I think I’m just focused on my short term priorities right now; that is.. keeping my kids fed, happy and alive.

With that, I apologize. While these posts are infrequent and random in their focus at best, I admit I need a spark, an idea or at least a humorous story to get my creative juices flowing. Sitting down to a blank slate knowing “I have to write a blog post tonight” usually results in 100% garbage. Trust me; the last thing I want to make is garbage. If I’ve learned anything over the last few years, it’s knowing that whatever you decide to say, show or do online, make it genuine and real. None of that rehashed junk that you’ve seen a million times before.

So what does that mean to you, the viewer/reader? I’m at the very beginning of my refocused blogging life, so I have no idea where I’m going to go. To give you an idea of whats on my mind, here are a few things I want to do that, again, I won’t be paid for:

  • YouTube Videos
  • YouTube Videos w/ Xavier (he is dying to start making videos)
  • Andrea to blog
  • Andrea to do YouTube Videos
  • Travel
  • … you get the picture

As I had mentioned before, time is a very hot commodity these days. So finding those precious minutes to blog, let alone do anything remotely close to making videos for YouTube with or without kids, is going to be difficult.

For what it’s worth, I’ll try to make whatever it is I do, fun. So long as I can find the time to do it. We’ll get there, I promise.

Until then, let me know what do you think. Is there anything you would like me to write more about?
